Players can download the base game (excluding the numerous DLCs) for free, via PC or Mac via the EA app , or on Origin , Steam , PlayStation 5 , PlayStation 4 , Xbox Series X|S , and Xbox One systems . Players who already had the game in their library or who purchased it before October 17th will get the “Desert Luxe” update for free, as long as they are redeemed until yesterday. This is EA ‘s way of thanking players who have previously invested in the game, functioning as a kind of treat.
“EA and Maxis have welcomed millions of The Sims players over the years and watched in awe as they unleash their imaginations, discover and connect with ideas, experiences and versions of themselves, both in game as in real life. With The Sims 4 base game free, the team is more dedicated than ever to developing new and meaningful experiences for fans, and will continue to develop and release Sims Packs, Kits, and Express Delivery for the foreseeable future.”

The Sims 4 was originally released in 2014 and has remained the most popular life simulator in the gaming world ever since. With the aim of keeping the game “alive”, EA and Maxis often release paid DLCs, which add new content and allow players to explore new features on a regular basis. This is the first time a game in the franchise has been free forever.
The Sims 4 for free, but DLCs are still paid
Although the base game is available for free, it is worth noting that the same will not happen with the game’s downloadable extra content. Currently, if a player wants to have the full experience provided by the game, they will have to pay BRL 2620.65, a total amount corresponding to the 59 DLCs available on the Steam store . Remembering that this is the promotional price, you can double the traditional price.
In total, there are 4 types of DLC available in the game:
- Expansion Packs: Inserts other experiences and lifestyles, such as different professions and jobs and pets;
- Game Pack: Adds new story-driven locations and missions.
- Stuff Pack: Introduces new items to the game, from Halloween pieces to the Christmas theme;
- Kits: offers mini-collections of objects, such as kitchen utensils or clothes of a specific style.
